Next Generation University (NextGenU), is a free, virtual university, founded by a professor at the University of British Columbia.
NextGenU aims at providing education for people in developing countries, though the courses are available to anyone. Course content is provided for free, by professors and post secondary institutions world wide.
As for evaluations and marking, all of that is done through peer and mentor assessment, and tests are arranged and organized by NextGenU. The benefits of distance education include eliminating the need to commute or relocate in order to learn, but NextGenU goes above and beyond that.
The hope is that this university can provide developing nations with the resources they need to educate potential healthcare workers. It also addresses the fact that one traditional style of learning doesn’t work for everyone.
