Love it or hate it, Movember is here to stay! And I couldn’t be happier.
Agreed, an upper lip covered in a scraggily mat of hair is not nearly as graceful as a silky pink ribbon but perhaps this is all by design. What else could get more men (and women) talking? None other than an upper lip duster! One could argue that a mustache is the perfect “man symbol” to help create awareness for prostate cancer and men’s health.
Most men I know aren’t quite sure how to feel about “the stash”. Do you take it seriously—like the rugged “I mean business” mustache of the great Magnum P.I.? Or, do we laugh and make light of the matter—like the deliberate over the top mustache of the zany Ron Burgundy?
The same goes about the threat of prostate cancer, routine check-ups, and the dreaded glove test. Many men are not sure how to feel about it. The point is, at the end of the day people are talking about it. Like any uncomfortable subject matter, simply talking about it can create the awareness needed to save lives. Mr. Ron Burgundy said it best—“60% of the time, it works every time.”
Many great foundations have helped raise millions for cancer research and treatments over the past decade. Namely, the Canadian Cancer Society and National Breast Cancer Foundation have blazed the way for creating positive awareness.
The month of “Movember” looks to do the same for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer. I am proud to put my upper lip forward in hopes of creating awareness and donations for Prostate Cancer Canada. Please support the Faronics Team by donating to this worthy cause.
