SAN RAMON, CA, December 18, 2007 — Faronics, makers of the computer energy waste-reducing software Power Save, is proud to announce that it has become an Associate member of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative. As a member of the Initiative, Faronics joins the ranks of other green organizations such as Dell, EDS, Google, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, PG&E, and the World Wildlife Fund in helping to reduce the climate change effects of computers.
Power Save uses intelligent energy management to ensure workstations are available when system resources are required, while conserving power during productivity downtimes. Power Save provides organizations with real financial and energy savings on every computer deployed, centralized workstation power status control, real-time savings reports, and policy scheduling. What makes Power Save superior than the standard power saving settings that come with every computer is the fact that the energysaving measures revolve around user activity, rather than fixed time values. With Power Save, organizations can set computers to look at CPU, disk, and application activity before implementing any energy-saving measures.
“With all the concerns over global warming, carbon footprints, and rising energy costs, using Power Save makes perfect sense,” says Vik Khanna, Vice President and COO of Faronics. “After all, you wouldn’t leave your car running day and night, so why do it with your computer?”
The goal of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative is to promote development, deployment and adoption of smart technologies that can both improve the efficiency of a computer’s power delivery and reduce the energy consumed when the computer is in an inactive state.
“By 2010, members of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative will reduce the CO2 generated by computers by over 54 million tons, the equivalent of taking 11 million cars off the road.” says Kim Stevenson, the EDS representative on the Climate Savers Computing Initiative Board of Directors. “Power Save’s ability to reduce enterprise computer energy consumption can play an important part in achieving this goal.”
A free, fully functional 30 day evaluation version of Power Save can be downloaded from www.faronics.com for both Windows and Mac computers.
