Faronics Debuts Deep Freeze 6.0 at NECC

SAN RAMON, CA, July 5, 2006 — Faronics proudly announces Deep Freeze 6.0 at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), held in San Diego, July 5-7.Deep Freeze protects and preserves baseline PC and Mac configurations. Regardless of the changes a user makes to a workstation, a reboot resets the computer to its original state — right down to the last byte. The result is a consistent and trouble-free computing environment with 100% workstation availability.

Faronics has reached a new milestone in its signature non-restrictive, restart-to-restore technology with this major release of Deep Freeze. This new version enhances existing functionality and offers new features in several areas. Deep Freeze administrators can dynamically create and schedule tasks directly in the Enterprise Console. User-defined groups can now contain multiple sub-groups and can be imported from Active Directory. Deep Freeze offers a new “Thaw Locked” option to put a workstation into a Thawed state for system maintenance, while locking the keyboard and mouse during this on-demand maintenance period. Instant messaging has also been implemented so administrators can send Deep Freeze workstation users customized messages from the console. This new version of Deep Freeze has an entirely new look and feel with a new interface and icons for a better user experience.

Deep Freeze takes management interoperability to an entirely new level with a brand-new plugin for LANDesk® Management Suite. Deep Freeze customers using LANDesk to manage their enterprise workstations can now control all Deep Freeze tasks from their LANDesk console. “Our LANDesk plug-in marks the beginning of our roadmap for Deep Freeze’s interoperability,” said Victor Gonzalez, product manager for Deep Freeze at Faronics. “We are planning to add plug-ins for other major desktop management solutions in the near future.”

As a proud ISTE member, Faronics has been attending and presenting at NECC since 1999. “NECC is the biggest show of the year for us in our core education market,” said Brent Smithurst, Vice President of Technical Operations at Faronics. “Our experience with NECC has played a significant role in establishing and growing successful relationships with our customers and partners in educational technology.”
