SAN RAMON, CA, March 4, 2008 — Faronics is kicking off CeBIT 2008 in Hannover, Germany by asking attendees to consider the negative effects that computer energy waste has on the environment, and their wallet. Faronics is also showcasing Power Save, an enterprise-level computer energy management software solution that is easy to deploy, non-disruptive to users and IT, and is able to prove its value through power consumption reporting. As the world’s largest trade fair showcasing computer and electronic solutions for home and work environments, CeBIT is the perfect venue to demonstrate the financial and environmental benefits of Power Save.
“With all the concerns over global warming, carbon footprints, and rising energy costs, using Power Save makes perfect sense,” says Vik Khanna, Vice President and COO of Faronics. “After all, you wouldn’t leave your car running day and night, so why do it with your computer?”
Power Save is superior to the standard power saving settings that come with every computer because it takes user activity into account before implementing any energy saving policies. By monitoring CPU, disk, and application activity, Power Save ensures that computer power management never interferes with user needs.
For this reason, Power Save has been extremely popular with IT personnel that manage large computer deployments, such as Rusty Adams, Lead Technician for Newport Independent School District. “We chose Power Save because of cost and the fact that it did not require a server,” says Rusty. “It has freed up the time and resources of IT because we trust Power Save to shut down the labs for us in order to satisfy our district’s energy policy requirements.”
For Sung Lee, Director of Student Computer Support for Howard Community College, the fact that Power Save is intelligent made it an extremely attractive solution. “If Power Save detects that PowerDVD or Windows Media Player is running on our Instructor stations, it prevents the computer from blanking the screen or powering down,” says Sung. “Since September 2007, we’ve had Power Save deployed campus-wide on all workstations, which is saving us over $50,000 per year in energy costs.” That’s $50,000 that Howard Community College now has every year to buy new IT equipment and software, hire more personnel, or invest into employee training.
Faronics is a recognized ENERGY STAR partner and is also a member of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, a non-profit group dedicated to developing, deploying, and adopting smart technologies that improve the efficiency of a computer’s power delivery and reduce the energy consumed when the computer is in an inactive state. A free, fully functional 30 day evaluation version of Power Save can be downloaded from www.faronics.com for both Windows and Mac computers.
