Faronics Twice Honored with Technology & Learning’s 2008 Award of Excellence

SAN RAMON, CA, November 10, 2008 — Faronics has once again been awarded Technology & Learning’s prestigious Award of Excellence. This year, Faronics received the award twice—once for Deep Freeze and again for Insight. Past years in which Faronics has been an award winner include 2007, 2006, 2004, and 2003. Both Deep Freeze and Insight will be showcased in Technology & Learning’s December awards issue and are both currently featured online at www.techlearning.com.

Deep Freeze was recognized for helping educators who are consistently battling to keep end-point workstations in a working and compliant state. Daily user activity inevitably alters a computer’s configuration to the point where it suffers from system slowdowns, crippled functionality, and non-compliance with acceptable use policies. Year after year, Deep Freeze has proven its strength in preventing configuration drift from taking place in Windows, Mac, and Linux environments. Once Deep Freeze is installed on a workstation, any changes made to the computer—regardless of whether they are accidental or malicious—are never permanent. Users can still save their data while the system core remains protected. In addition to the Award of Excellence, Deep Freeze recently received positive media attention from University Business magazine and InformationWeek.

Insight’s ability to turn standard computer labs into collaborative learning environments has helped teachers become better educators while using the tools they already have—a definite requirement for school administrators facing shrinking budgets while also being asked to do more with less. Using Insight, teachers are able to assist, monitor, and communicate with an entire class from one central computer. They can share their screen with students, control student access to applications, websites, or peripherals, and monitor classroom activity to ensure students are on task. Students can communicate with the teacher, request and receive assistance, and respond to class polls directly through their workstation.

Technology & Learning’s Awards of Excellence program has been recognizing outstanding ed tech curriculum products for the last quarter century. With a solid reputation in the industry as a longstanding, high quality program, the AOE recognizes both the “best of the best” and creative new offerings that help educators in the business of teaching, training and managing with technology. All entries are given a rigorous test-driving by qualified educators in several rounds of judging, and are evaluated based on quality and effectiveness, ease of use, creative use of technology, and suitability for use in an educational environment.

A free, fully functional 30 day evaluation version of all Faronics products, including Deep Freeze and Insight, can be downloaded from www.faronics.com.
