Faronics Announces Publication of a New Case Study Featuring Gilchrist County School District
VANCOUVER, B.C. and PLEASANTON, Calif., May 26, 2015 – Faronics, a global leader in simplifying, securing and managing multi-user computer environments, announced today a new case study featuring Gilchrist County School District in Florida.
The case study showcases Gilchrist County’s successful use of Deep Freeze Cloud Connector, Faronics’ cloud based solution with which existing Deep Freeze workstations can be managed anywhere, anytime. The three-member IT team of Gilchrist County School District was finding it challenging to manage 3,000 Windows workstations spread across two towns.
“The fact is that in these educational environments, there are often students and teachers that are not tech savvy,” said Aaron Wiley, Director of Instructional Technology. “Keeping the computer labs at each school up-to-date was another tall task. To add to their woes, the existing anti-virus solution was hogging resources and slowing down workstations. Every time something went wrong on a machine, the first thing we did was turn off the anti-virus because it was so hard to handle and this was very aggravating.” said Wiley.
The Gilchrist County School District has been a Deep Freeze Enterprise customer since 2003 and knew of its proven capabilities. While evaluating Deep Freeze Cloud Connector, Aaron and his team immediately realized that it was the perfect addition to their IT toolkit by web-enabling their enterprise consoles and helping to centrally manage workstations from any browser. Even before their trial ended, the IT team was convinced that it was the solution to many of their problems. They appreciated the Cloud Connector’s ease of management, status monitoring, and ability to check conditions across their deployment.
The Gilchrist County School District IT team realized the potential of features like Software Updater, Usage Stats and Anti-Virus. Gilchrist’s Senior Technician used Usage Stats to identify computers that were underutilized, so they can be used to increase lab capacity for testing on a temporary basis. Software Updater helped Gilchrist County manage the software update process via a central console. “In a critical project, instead of having to go to every computer to install Chrome browser, we were able to push it out using Software Updater within a week. It was a life saver!” said Wiley. In their quest for a light and effective anti-virus, they found that Faronics Anti-Virus was easy to manage, integrated with Deep Freeze, provided security against critical threats, and did not eat up tech time and students’ time in the classroom.
Following the successful integration of Deep Freeze Cloud Connector into their deployment, the Gilchrist County School District found dramatic improvements in their system uptime and manageability. “It has been vital to our environment and my team could not do without it,” said Wiley. “I would recommend it to any organization with an IT infrastructure. At the end of the day, our investment has been well worth it and a smart decision.”
