In less than a week educators across North America will be converging in San Antonio, Texas, to attend NECC 2008, one of the nation’s largest and most popular annual education tradeshows. This year marks the 9th time that Faronics will be showcasing to NECC attendees how our solutions are able to help manage, simplify, and secure their desktop computers.
This year’s show is going to be hot, and not just because it’s in Texas! We’ve got a brand new version of Anti-Executable to showcase, and the newly-released Faronics Core Console.
People loved it when we came out with Anti-Executable 2.0, but wanted more. They wanted features such as moveable white lists and flexible security. Anti-Executable 3.0 delivers. IT administrators of large computer networks are going to love the fact that Anti-Executable 3.0 enables them to build a white list once, then deploy it to all other workstations at one time via Core Console. Educators will appreciate the flexibility of the white folder feature—a folder or drive can be temporarily allowed to run a particular application as deemed necessary. Current Anti-Executable customers are eligible to receive a complimentary upgrade to Anti-Executable 3.0! Make sure you contact your Faronics Account Manager for more details, because this offer ends August 31, 2008.
I’m happy to share the good news with you that my wife and I were recently blessed with another baby boy— soon I’ll have to add another “Thawed User” to the Khanna family computer. People often ask me if Deep Freeze can be used at home, and the answer is YES! Just map the user profiles on your home computer to a Thawed partition, and Freeze the computer. Deep Freeze will make sure your home computer stays in pristine condition, while your family members will still be able to save their documents, bookmarks, pictures, and music, etc. If you haven’t installed Deep Freeze on your home computer, what are you waiting for?
I am always interested in hearing your thoughts on Faronics’ products and service. Feel free to email me at vikkhanna@faronics.com. If you are attending NECC, make sure you visit us at Booth # 7074!
Sincerely,
Vik Khanna, Senior Vice President and COO

Faronics Core Console—What Is It?
Faronics Core Console is a newly-released management tool that empowers IT administrators with centralized deployment and control capabilities over Faronics’ enterprise software products. Powered by Microsoft’s MMC3 technology, Core Console provides an industry-standard interface and feature set that allows for console agent and product deployment without ever having to visit the workstation or use any third-party tools. Core Console’s support for LDAP group importation means that IT administrators can take advantage of workstation groupings that have already been established. With native Wake-on-LAN support, Core Console allows IT personnel to wake up workstations across subnets without having to deal with tedious router configuration issues. Other important features include 64 bit hardware support, advanced product scheduling options, and reporting functionality that is powered by SQL Express.
Anti-Executable 3.0 and Power Save 2.0 are the first of Faronics' products to move over to Faronics Core Console—soon to be joined by WINSelect. The ability to deploy and manage all of Faronics' products through one central console will greatly improve the interoperability of our products and the desktop management experience. |

Andrew Watkins – Software Development Manager
This month’s employee profile is on Andrew Watkins, Software Development Manager for Faronics Core Console. Andrew has been with Faronics for a little over 4 years, and was heavily involved in the development of Faronics Core Console. |
| |
Q: What’s your Faronics story?
A: I’ve seen some tremendous growth here at Faronics. Back when I first started in the Development department there were only 5 other developers and just 1 software tester.
Q: Different positions held either here or in the past?
A: My title has changed more than once, but I still consider myself a developer.
Q: Interesting facts about your time here at Faronics?
A: I've always worked on ‘Enterprise' level projects here at Faronics—I led the development of Power Save v1.10. I have been able to take the lessons learned from these original projects and apply them to the Core Console. I believe the Core Console has already achieved most of the original goals and I'm excited about it because it has so much potential for growth in so many different areas.
Q: Hobbies? Interests?
A: I have an 18-month old son, so right now I have no hobbies. Before that I was into (Cal-20) sailboat racing, boatbuilding and woodworking. |
