Looking at the Featured Items below, it’s clear that this edition of The Quarterly is heavily focused on Power Save, Faronics’ non-disruptive energy management software for Windows and Mac computers. I’m not at all surprised though—there’s been a lot of activity and interest in Power Save. If you remember, in the last issue I wrote, and I quote:
“Not only is 2008 poised to be a great year, it’s going to be a green year.”
A few weeks ago, Faronics released Power Save Mac 2.0, which added Leopard support and advanced auditing and report capabilities. Now, Power Save 2.0 for Windows is available! This latest version of Power Save will be a milestone in Faronics’ history—it represents the first product to use Faronics’ unified enterprise management solution, Faronics Core Console.
Faronics Core Console empowers administrators with enterprise management of multiple Faronics products through a single console, and flexible scheduling and configurations options. Faronics' goal is to have all of our enterprise products managed through Core Console in the road ahead. I'm excited that Power Save is the first of Faronics' software solutions to use this new technology! We are currently in the process of planning the beta of Anti-Executable Version 3 which will be our second product managed by the Faronics Core Console. If you are interested in taking part in the beta, contact me or, better yet, send an email to betaprogram@faronics.com.
I have heard from a lot of Novell customers over the years, which is why I know they will be pleased with the latest addition to Deep Freeze—a Deep Freeze Snap-in For Novell ConsoleOne is now available and is included as part of Deep Freeze Enterprise!
I am always interested in hearing your thoughts on Faronics’ products and service. Feel free to email me at vikkhanna@faronics.com.
Sincerely,
Vik Khanna, Senior Vice President and COO |

Intelligent Energy Management Advances With Power Save 2.0!
Version 2.0 of Faronics’ non-disruptive computer energy management software features numerous improvements and feature additions, including Windows Vista support, a new enterprise console, and a revamped database powered by SQL Express.
Just like in Windows XP, Power Save now takes the energy saving capabilities of Windows Vista machines to the next level by implementing energy policies that revolve around true user activity, rather than fixed times values. Power Save is the only computer energy management solution that analyzes CPU, disk, keyboard, mouse, and application activity before taking power management actions. It also triumphs over the basic settings provided by Windows by providing enterprise workstation control and savings reporting.
Power Save 2.0 is also the first Faronics product to be controlled on an enterprise-level by the newly-released Faronics Core Console. Core Console’s MMC3 platform has enabled numerous improvements to take place in Power Save, including faster reporting capabilities powered by SQL Express, improved Wake-On-LAN support, the ability to run on 64-bit computer systems, and a standardized Microsoft User Interface that IT administrators are already familiar with. Power Save users with a valid maintenance package can download this latest version from Faronics Labs, Faronics’ customer care portal. If you haven’t given Power Save a try yet, download the free, fully functional 30 day evaluation version. |

Faronics Power Save Mac 2.0 Helps Leopards Go To Sleep
Faronics is proud to advance the energy management capabilities of Mac computers by announcing the release of Power Save Mac 2.0! The showcase feature in this release is the Report Generator, which allows organizations to see exactly how much they’ve saved by measuring energy-use both before and after deploying Power Save. The 2.0 release of Power Save Mac now also provides support for Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.
The Report Generator features an Audit Mode, which reports on the energy and cost savings gained from the standard power saving actions that are already in place on a workstation. This serves as the before snapshot for the computer. The Power Save report then provides the financial and energy savings that were generated from Power Save’s intelligent energy management. By comparing these two reports, anyone can easily see the positive impact that Power Save Mac is able to provide. The Report Generator also helps IT administrators manage their deployment with the ability to organize workstations into groups. |

New Features Added To Latest Version Of Insight
This latest release offers several performance enhancements, workstation print control, one-to-one classroom support, and classroom attendance capabilities.
The new Print Control feature empowers teachers with the ability to limit student access to printers. Insight now also features a utility that allows a teacher to move between different classrooms while keeping class lists organized and updated in real time. One-to-One also allows the student machine to join other classrooms by changing to a different teacher channel without restarting. The ability to monitor and compare student attendance is an additional feature that has been added to this release.
Faronics Insight has been extremely popular with IT personnel in education environments, such as Josh Kolka, Technology Administrator for Bangor Township Schools. “Some of our labs have computers assembled into pods,” says Josh. “It’s great when it comes to fostering collaboration and teamwork between students, but it does make it very difficult for a teacher to monitor what students are doing at all times. Teachers would walk around the classroom to monitor activities, but once they walked to another pod a student could easily visit a game website and stop doing their work. Thanks to Insight, our teachers now have the much needed ability to educate and monitor students from a central location.” |

Faronics Joins Climate Savers Computing Initiative In The Fight Against Climate Change
Faronics is proud to announce that it has become an Associate member of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative. As a member of the Initiative, Faronics joins the ranks of other green organizations such as Dell, EDS, Google, HP, Intel, Lenovo, Microsoft, PG&E, and the World Wildlife Fund in helping to reduce the climate change effects of computers.
The goal of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative is to promote development, deployment and adoption of smart technologies that can both improve the efficiency of a computer’s power delivery and reduce the energy consumed when the computer is in an inactive state.
“By 2010, members of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative will reduce the CO2 generated by computers by over 54 million tons, the equivalent of taking 11 million cars off the road.” says Kim Stevenson, the EDS representative on the Climate Savers Computing Initiative Board of Directors. “Power Save’s ability to reduce enterprise computer energy consumption can play an important part in achieving this goal.” |

Kristina Bell – Sales Manager, International Sales
This month’s employee profile is on Kristina Bell, who has been with Faronics since September 2005. Kristina was kind enough to answer some questions and share her story for this edition of The Quarterly. |
| |
Q: What’s your Faronics story?
A: I was introduced to Faronics' products while working for various resellers in Europe. When I made up my mind to move back to Canada I was surprised to find that Faronics was headquartered in the Vancouver area. Living and working abroad for 10 years played a key part in understanding Faronics' business outside of the domestic markets & growing international sales. I now have the pleasure of managing a great team of people that connects with partners & customers in over 90 countries around the world.
Q: Different positions held either here or in the past?
A: I have spent the last 10 years in the technology industry in some form or another. The last 8 or so have been spent in different sales or sales management positions. I started with Faronics as a Channel Manager for North America, transitioned into Channel Manager for EMEA, and am now managing the International Sales department at Faronics.
Q: Interesting facts about your time here at Faronics?
A: International Sales is an exciting department to be a part of. We continue to invest in our international markets and as a result are seeing impressive growth in sales and in our network of channel partners. Not only do we interface with a multitude of business types, we do so across geographic, language & cultural differences that are unique to international sales. Each region has different needs. It is thrilling to work in such a dynamic environment!
Q: Hobbies? Interests?
A: I like to travel, and enjoy good food and wine. To keep fit, I snowboard and wakeboard. I also spend my leisure time reading, running, and with family, friends, & my dog Scarlet. |
